Summary of Duties
Reporting directly to the Department Head of Network Services, the Cisco Network Engineer troubleshoots Wide Area Network (WAN)/ Local Area Network (LAN) connectivity and provides WAN/LAN engineering support for Metra's Cisco infrastructure. Implement hardware/software recommendations to improve network security and evaluates related hardware/software products and upgrades. Maintains network Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance and ensures security monitoring with external consultants. Evaluates network related hardware/software products, and upgrades. Analyzes service options, infrastructure configurations and ongoing support requirements to improve system reliability and maintain operations metrics. Maintains current Cisco maintenance agreements and is the primary contact with Cisco Remote Security Management services. Perform other related duties as needed to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, management information systems, engineering, or related discipline preferred OR in lieu of degree, a combination of education and equivalent work experience in IT infrastructure and networking services that equals four (4) years.
  • Eight (8) years of  progressive related IT experience in infrastructure and network environment performing Cisco network engineering (hardware and software), network design, and implementation of LANs, WANs, and Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). 
  • Must have extensive experience with Cisco enterprise level core switches, routers, ASA firewalls, 5508 class wireless LAN controllers.
  • Extensive experience implementing Cisco infrastructure in a primary data center/disaster recovery environment.
  • Must have at least three (3) years of planning, analysis, configuration, installation, and Cisco systems management experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Strong working knowledge of security related technologies such as 2-factor authentication, RADIUS, TACACS, RSA and 802.1x and Cisco IOS required.
  • Strong skills in Cisco Data Center (Nexus, Virtualization, OTV) and Cisco Security and layer 2 and 3 network skills. Extensive knowledge of multiple routing protocols is required (OSPF/BGP/HSRP/EIGRP).
  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) preferred. 
  • Understanding of enterprise systems and processes as it relates to infrastructure support and experience designing infrastructure for Virtualization (VMWare, Hyper-V) and Storage (EMC,HP 3PAR).
